Kauma

Kauma was a proud recipient of the Universal Access Fund (UAF) in 2020. Through this initiative, the school received 20 set of computers, internet access, and a Wi-Fi extension covering the entire school compound. The UAF generously covered the internet bandwidth costs for one year and provided a business model to help the school generate income from its Wi-Fi service. This preparation ensured that Kauma would be ready to manage the project independently after one year when the Communications Commission of Kiribati (CCK) transferred full responsibility to the school.

The Wi-Fi access allows students and staff to connect to the internet from their dormitories after school hours. Additionally, residents from nearby villages can purchase Wi-Fi vouchers at a lower cost, enabling them to access the internet.
