Teraina, also known as Washington Island, is part of the Linnix Group in Kiribati and previously lacked mobile network service. Through the UAF Project, Teraina has been provided with internet access and Wi-Fi, a project completed in 2024 in collaboration with KOIRAP. KOIRAP funded the Starlink terminals for island councils, while the UAF project covered logistics and installation costs.
The introduction of internet access has profoundly impacted the people of Teraina. It has enabled them to communicate with their families, request assistance during cargo shortages, and make emergency calls. This vital support has strengthened the community's connectivity and resilience, illustrating the transformative power of technology in remote areas.
