Ribono Islet, part of Abaiang Island, has overcome its connectivity challenges with the support of the Universal Access Program (UAP). Previously limited to 3G and 2G access from the mainland, the islet now benefits from internet VSAT and extended WiFi coverage, provided through funding from UAP and facilitated by the Abaiang Island Council.
As part of the initiative, UAP has also covered a one-year internet bandwidth subscription and introduced a business model enabling the islet's wifi network caretaker to sell WiFi vouchers. This approach ensures revenue generation to sustain connectivity after UAP's funding concludes. Residents of Ribono are now connected to the digital world, bridging the gap and ensuring they are not left behind in today's technology-driven era.
